Les Murets is technically in Gordes, France – although if you look at a detailed map of the area, it is actually right above a small hamlet called Les Imberts. The nearest village within walking distance is Cabrieres d’Avignon, where there is a wonderful bakery, a great little butcher, a handy market, a nice restaurant (Le Vieux Bistrot) and a few shops, plus a post office.
The very picturesque Provençal hilltop village of Gordes is 3 miles away, and takes about one hour to hike to by foot-- up a pretty steep up hill. The property overlooks the Luberon valley, which is filled with marvelous and renowned hilltop towns, such as Menerbes, Roussillon, Goult, Bonnieux and Lacoste. The valley is flanked on either side by Cavaillon and Apt, both of which have excellent shops, and Apt has an outstanding and lively Saturday market. Just 22 miles away is the medieval walled town of Avignon, home of the Popes in the 13th century, and packed with historical and architectural interest. And for antiques lovers, the capital of the antiques markets in France – second only to Paris – is Isle sur la Sorgue, which is a quick ten minute drive from Les Murets.

The area around Les Murets is filled with restaurants , vineyards, and various colorful Provencalmarkets. The nearest golf course is the Golf and Country Club de Provence, just 5 miles away near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.Other sports activities in the area include canoe-kayaking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The Mediterrranean is just a short 1 ¼ hours away, with our favorite place being the quaint seaside village of Cassis.
The Avignon festival takes place in July every year and other local music festivals are held locally throughout the summer, such as the Roque d'Anthéron Piano festival and the Luberon International String Quartet Festival. The Festival de Lacoste is a marvelous place for opera lovers – and a fun place to see and be seen (wear white linen and you’ll fit right in!).And there are musical and theatre events almost daily in different villages across the valley throughout the summer.
Guests of Les Murets will receive a comprehensive Welcome Book, which I have enjoyed compiling over the years, listing all of our favorite restaurants, markets, vineyards and many other areas of interest that surround the property. We have found that there is so much to do, you could spend two or three weeks exploring a new interesting area every day.Or, you could do what we have been known to happily do, from time to time:Sleep late, walk to the bakery, sit by the pool, play some tennis, read a book and have your biggest decision be where to go for lunch!
