Art has played a huge role in Elizabeth Stockton’s life from the time she was small. The daughter of art-loving parents (her dad was in advertising, but also a fine artist), she was encouraged to pursue her love for art.She studied graphic design at the University of Georgia, but it was a painting class there that sowed the seeds of the passion to come. The seeds didn’t begin to grow and flourish until about ten years ago when her husband, Manley, presented her with canvases, brushes and paints.Stockton, who was at that time an art director, found that painting released a sense of pure bliss…and she hasn’t looked back since.
Stockton’s paintings are known for their quiet serenity and their tribute to all things natural: the sky, the sea, the marsh. She paints in oils, applying layer over layer of paint until the canvas glows with subtleties and nuances of shadow, depth and perspective. There’s a true sense of tranquility to her work.
Elizabeth says, “I paint landscapes that portray an emotion as opposed to an actual place.I appreciate a painting that haunts me so I never get tired of looking at it and studying it – one that changes with the light, the season, placement and mood.My paintings evoke an emotion of peacefulness, awareness, quiet and tranquility.”
