Artist's Biography
James Richards likes to compare his paintings to windows that shed light on the beauty of the world – from a bustling, gritty cityscape or luminous landscape to a light-infused study of a crumbling Tuscan villa. His creative endeavors are inspired by cities and landscapes around the world, from Tuscany and northern France to coastal Georgia and South Carolina.
James is as comfortable painting outdoors as he is in the studio. Many of James’ paintings are the results of en plein air studies which he brings back to his studio to compose on larger canvases.
“Nature presents an overwhelming choice of subject matter for me. My paintings allow me to arrange what I see in nature. My finished paintings convey the spark in my soul which drew me to the subject in the first place,” says James. The artist paints full-time while also sharing his knowledge by teaching workshops and classes. He lives in Georgia, with his wife Nova; son, Christian; two dogs and a cat.
