Jill Peckelun joins us from Pennsylvania as a guest artist for our "A Grand Affair" show, January 2010. A full time artist since 1999, and a lifelong student of the arts, Jill is primarily known for her acrylic plein air pieces that are filled with lively brushwork, thick paint and the spontaneity that so many artists yearn to achieve. But what drew us to Jill were her graphic and bold drawings with charcoal and pen, which are stunningly powerful in their simplicity and confidence. We will be dislaying both framed and unframed drawings for "A Grand Affair," and all will be priced from $350 to $750, depending on size and if they are framed.
In the artist's words: "My artistic style is influenced by the freedom of the Impressionists, and so, accordingly, the Asians, the Arts and Crafts movement of a hundred years ago and the immediacy of working from life.
"I greatly enjoy painting/drawing my charcoal and black ink pieces. I like the exuberant spare-ness of them. They are often done after drawing the same figurative pose in a more realistic manner for several hours. By that time I know the model really well."
