Huff Harrington Fine Art Welcomes Author Betty Londergan

Atlanta (March 31, 2006) – Moms of the world rejoice! First-time author and Brookhaven resident Betty Londergan’s honest and humorous look at motherhood celebrates that fact that for many moms, giving birth doesn’t mean having to give up being fabulous. With the publication of I’m Too Sexy for My Volvo, Londergan makes good on her stated mission: “If I can help just one mother crawl out of the ooze of total self-denial back into the relative paradise of sporadic self-indulgence, I’ll consider my time on the planet well-spent.” Atlantans will have a chance to meet the woman behind the book at Huff Harrington Fine Art on Thursday, May 11 during her book signing and reception from 5 to 8 p.m.

The wife of Oglethorpe University’s new President, Dr. Lawrence Schall, Betty is not exactly the high-browed academic one might expect.  “I’m Too Sexy for My Volvo is an ode to the joys of motherhood while still giving moms lots of room to be wild and crazy girls – even if they’re 80,” says Londergan. “My bite-sized Rules are super easy to digest, hilarious and great for discussion – and you can read the whole thing in one night.”

It is this last quality that led Londergan to tout  I’m Too Sexy for My Volvo as an ideal book club selection for a month like May or December, when moms barely have enough time to feed the kids, much less take on a serious tome. Call it Book Club Lite.

Londergan’s book is also being hailed as the perfect Mother’s Day gift - think of it as a survival guide for new and used mothers alike. Filled with advice, quips and rules that will help any mom cleverly get through the confusing, tough or just downright odd times, the book covers issues from what to wear when you’re nine months along and the size of Cleveland, to the mystery of why Baby Einstein products aren’t producing more Einsteins.
