“My art is a reflection of my life, my journey.  It’s the struggle between the uncertainty of what lies ahead and the beauty that lies before me.  I find the only place I can resolve this inner dialogue is on the canvas where thoughts and emotions transform into expressive brushstrokes.  Just as my life is a strata of experiences, my paintings develop layer upon layer with a compositional balance between energy and tranquility, the known and the unknown.”

Artist's Biography:

Kay Flierl grew up in Colorado, and it was her deep appreciation of this vast, open environment along with the beauty and color of the changing landscape that inspired her to start painting.  Her paintings are colorful representations of moments past and present, creating visually exciting, yet contemplative compositions.

After 15 years as a graphic artist, Flierl was determined to transfer her creative skills to the medium of paint.  Inspired by her father, who never fully realized his dream of painting, she recognized the same dream within herself.  With a box of old acrylics and a few brushes of her father’s that she found tucked away in the basement, Flierl began to paint.  Her vast landscapes done in plein air are  influenced by the mood and vigorous brushwork of painters such as Edgar Payne and Kevin MacPherson, and the vibrant hues of Wolf Kahn.  She is also drawn to the human figure and its endless complexities.

Flierl continues to express herself through abstract expressionism as well as landscape paintings and is stimulated by experimentation of subject matter.  She feels each body of work influences and inspires the other.  She has studied with Ray Roberts, Roger Dale Brown and Perry Austin and constantly works at learning and experimentation.  She recently moved to California from Atlanta, where she was pursuing fine art at the Atlanta College of Art and was a member of the Atlanta Artist’s Center.  Her paintings are in several fine hotels as well as corporate and private collections across the country.

We are so delighted to represent this conscientious, talented and enthusiastic artist, who says that she "wakes up each day eager to paint all that God has given us."
