JESSICA FALSTEIN

Sun on the Surface, sold
Verdant Passage

Jessica Falstein’s moody, haunting and gloriously atmospheric landscapes had us from the very first time we saw them.  They are light-infused, yet full of contrast, shadows and mystery.  Falstein hints at a horizon to ground the viewer, but it’s the luminosity, clouds and effortlessly painted air that grab one’s attention and hold it tight.  Painting on wood panel that’s good for “grabbing” the paint, Falstein likes to use wide, soft brushes that blend pigment over pigment.  Many layers of paint are frequently sanded, glazed and treated in between application.  All this goes to produce Falstein’s smooth-surfaced paintings that are full of visual nooks and crannies.  By painting from an elevated perspective, Falstein tricks the viewer into looking into the distance to view a suggested horizon.

In addition to her ethereal and smooth abstract paintings, the artist has completed a series of small still lives that are rich, luminescent and textured in unctuous oils.  We are delighted to offer this varied collection of  little jewels which represent an affordable price point for any collector.

Falstein hails from New York City where she has collaborated with stage designer Donald Eastman (her original artwork became the centerpiece for productions of Neat at the Manhattan Theater Club and The Gimmick at McCarter Theater).   She has also produced commissioned work for interior designer Stephen Gambrel.

Interior Design Magazine has featured Falstein's work. (August, 2006 and October, 2007). And one of her paintings was selected for the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Christmas Showhouse, and featured in the January 2009 edition of AH & L magazine. Her works are represented in the collections of corporate clients including the The Chubb Group, Olgilvy Worldwide and Skidmore College and in the private collection of fashion photographer Bruce Weber.  She is also the recipient of a CAPS Fellowship in Painting and a Pollack-Krasner Grant.  We’re honored and proud to represent this talented artist at Huff Harrington Fine Art.
