Catherine Coren’s soft and elegantly painted works are a wondrous mélange of thoughtful composition, a honed palette and a serene spirit. We were attracted immediately to her innate talent and natural sensitivity -- and find ourselves frequently standing in front of her paintings, studying the subtle nuances of her work.
In addition to her skill in drawing and her exceptional use of light and value, Coren is an artist who has the rare ability to convey an emotion or sentiment through her work. Her interiors suggest a sense of tranquility and dreaminess. We love the way she conveys the luminosity of a room lit by fading daylight and filtered through sheer fabric – a technique accentuated by a carefully applied layer of thin and transparent paint combined with delicate outlines in charcoal.
Her work is also a subtle nod to the centuries-old French sensibility of design and décor – the graceful lines of a fauteuil à la reine and a perfectly positioned vase of white tulips sitting upon a grand piano with a perfectly aged patina reflects the artist’s love of composition and order on the canvas along with the beauty that comes from age.
Born in 1949, Coren been justly rewarded for her passion of art and painting. She has shown in exhibits throughout France and in New York, New Jersey, Palm Beach and Atlanta. She has also been awarded numerous honors and citations for her work, including the 1st Grand Prix de Peinture à L’Huile au Salon Nationale des Armées à Paris. Other awards include:
